A tiger cub dies at Nagarahole; fight with a big cat probably
The carcass of the male tiger cub, 10 to 11 months old, was found in the Taraka forest near Dammanakatte under the Antharasanthe wildlife range

One of three cubs of a tigress who died after being caught in a trap recently at the Antharasanthe Wildlife Sanctuary, within the boundaries of Nagarahole National Park, was found dead on Sunday.
The carcass of the male tiger cub, 10 to 11 months old, was found in the Taraka forest near Dammanakatte under the Antharasanthe wildlife range.
The tigress and her three cubs were frequently spotted on the wildlife safari at Nagarahole and photographed by wildlife enthusiasts. They had raised concerns for the safety of the three cubs after the tigress died.
The Forest Department acted quickly and placed camera traps in several locations and began monitoring the movements of the three baby tigers using tame elephants.
Camera footage showed the three cubs adjusting to the wildlife and healthy, the forest department said. According to DCF and Nagarahole Project Tiger director Harsha Kumar Chikkanaragunda, the autopsy report said the cub’s carcass had neck and shoulder injuries as well as a fractured limb.
“He may have died in a fight with another tiger. The combing operation will continue and the health of the other two cubs will be monitored,” he said.
The carcass was burned in the presence of ACF KN Rangaswamy, Metikuppe Wildlife Subdivision Veterinarian Dr Ramesh and other staff.
