Over the years I have heard many people say that after a hard day there is nothing better than spending time with a beloved animal friend. Our dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, etc. all have a special way of bringing us comfort.
Animals have always played an important role in my life. Not only do I enjoy their company, but the mutual fulfillment that occurs creates a strong bond of friendship. My family’s most recent adoptee is a one-year-old cat named Gilda. At 8 weeks old, we adopted her from a foster family who works with our local Humane Society. They say training the cats takes a few weeks, but she trained us in just a few days. Cats and dogs are good as well.
The creatures in our lives teach us about unconditional love and the power of love. They teach children gentleness and care. Living with an animal as part of the family makes life richer in many ways. They are a blessing, that’s for sure.
Ukiah United Methodist Church and Grace Lutheran Church meet on Sunday, October 2 to bless the animals that bless us. We invite the community to join us. Bring your animal friends on a leash or in a carrier to our animal blessing worship service at Grace Lutheran, 200 Wabash Ave. in Ukiah, for a special blessing as we celebrate the gift of animal lovers.
Some of our visitors will be adoptable animals from the Humane Society of Inland Mendocino. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your new animal friend there. Come join us for this joyous moment of celebration!
