Brandywine Valley SPCA to Host Mega Adoption Event in Delaware

HARRINGTON, Delaware – The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) will host its tenth Mega Adoption event in partnership with Petco Love and BOBS by Skechers™. Nine shelters from eight states will bring more than 1,000 homeless cats and dogs to the event to find homes.

The Mega Adoption Event will bring together over 1,000 homeless cats and dogs hoping to find a holiday home in one place.

Adoptable pets will include large dogs, small dogs, puppies, kittens, adults, and seniors. Adoption fees are only $35 for any pet, and these fees include sterilization, current vaccinations, and microchipping.

This will be the BVSPCA’s tenth Mega Adoption event and the first return to a single major venue in three years. The first Mega took place in December 2016. To date, BVSPCA’s Mega has found homes for over 8,000 homeless pets, each placing over 1,000 dogs and cats with families over a two-year period. days.

“People might be surprised, about 20% of animals in shelters tend to be what you would consider purebreds, and then there are all the big one-of-a-kind mixes,” Linda Torelli explained, head of marketing. Officer with BVSPCA. “We will have small dogs, big dogs, puppies, seniors, and even in the case of cats.”

Additionally, the BVSPCA shared its expertise in large-scale adoption events to lead two successful mega adoption events in Houston, Texas. The most recent dates back to September of this year. Texas has the second highest euthanasia rate in the nation, so these events were key to saving more lives.

More than 2,500 homeless pets found families at these two Houston Mega events. This brings the BVSPCA’s Mega influence to over 10,000 homeless animals matched with families in its Mega story.

“We also have animals that come from shelters that have very difficult communities with high euthanasia rates. Texas, for example, has the second highest euthanasia rate in the country,” Torelli told our Rob Petree. “We are bringing about 100 pets Friday on one of the flights from Texas.”

Adopters must bring a dog adoption leash and collar (also available or for purchase), cat carrier (cardboard carriers will be available for purchase), valid ID, and adoption fees. The BVSPCA recommends bringing all dogs home to meet a potential new member of the canine family, and outdoor meeting areas will be available.

The event will take place this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.
