CAT 2022: why scores are normalized

Not only in CAT, but in almost all multi-team entrance exams, candidate scores are normalized. As quizzes from different shifts can have different levels of difficulty, score normalization is implemented.

“In order to ensure impartiality and fairness in comparing test taker performance across different testing sessions, test taker scores will go through a normalization process. The normalization process should adjust for differences in location and scale of score distributions between different forms. After normalizing on different forms, the scores should be further normalized on different sections. The scaled scores obtained through this process will be converted into percentiles for pre-screening purposes,” reads an official statement on the 2022 CAT Score Normalization.
