Dave, a stray cat, who had developed a bond with the England players as he was staying near their team hotel, will be flown to the UK. Dave was unofficially adopted by the players as the team’s mascot as he spent time with them.
England defender Kyle Walker had discussed the team’s ‘lucky charm’ at a press conference and said the team had promised to take the cat to the UK if he managed to win the Cup of the world in Qatar.
Although England fell short of World Cup glory, the players decided to bring Dave back to the UK. The cat left Al Wakrah just two hours after the team left and will first visit a local veterinary clinic. There he will receive vaccinations and spend four months in quarantine before heading to his new home, PA Media reported.
In a video posted to Twitter, he wrote: “Dave the cat is coming home. The England #FIFAWorldCup team have adopted a stray cat from Qatar, who has been spending time with the players between matches and started his journey to join them in the UK.
