But luckily, a cat owner has revealed the simple trick she uses to stop her cats from scratching every piece of furniture in sight.
And the best part? It will only cost you £1.
There are ways to buy furniture covers to prevent them from being permanently damaged.
But this nifty trick won’t ruin the look of your furniture.
While posting on her TikTok account, Joja and Pon, she revealed that cats hate the smell of white pepper.
She shows how her cat instantly turns away when he opens the tube of pepper.
To use it on furniture, she simply takes a small amount and rubs it on her couch chair.
The smell of white pepper prevents her cat from wanting to approach the chair and scratch it.
The video has since been viewed over three million times and viewers have been seriously impressed.
One wrote, “I’m trying so hard…thanks.”
“Hopefully this will also help citrus sprays like lemon or orange to work well. And having a scratching post nearby,” she advised.
Another commented: “I have to try because my sofa and carpets are destroyed and nothing has worked so far.”
A third wrote: “Ooooooh game changer.”
Meanwhile, a fourth added: ‘I’m going to try this, one of my cats is constantly scratching my sofa and my bed.’
She revealed that cats need a place to scratch – so it’s best to buy them a scratching post to keep them entertained and their claws filed.
You can buy white pepper in most supermarkets for just £1.
