Man arrested for stealing hairless cat from Shelton hotel room


SHELTON — A man wanted for stealing a hairless cat and several designer bags from a local hotel room was apprehended on Wednesday, police said.

Zyair Lopez, 20, of Bridgeport, has been charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, public information officer for the Shelton Police Department, told me. Lopez was released on $10,000 bond and is due in state Superior Court in Derby on February 28.

The burglary was reported to Shelton police on January 22, according to Kozlowsky. Several items were missing from a hotel room at the Hilton Garden Inn at 25 Old Stratford Road, including the hairless cat, named Princess, a Gucci bag and a Fendi bag, Kozlowsky said. The missing items were estimated to have a total value of around $8,500, Kozlowsky said.

During the investigation, officers conducted a court-authorized search, according to Kozlowsky. While several items were seized following the search, the cat was not found, Kozlowsky said. The police are still trying to locate Princess.
