GROTON – Authorities are investigating after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a mobile home in Mystic. City officials said no one was injured, but a neighbor saved two pets from the fire.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., the Groton Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the 400 block of High Street, Groton Police said in a statement.
Police said a neighbor called 911 after spotting smoke coming from the single-story mobile home.
“The neighbor was also able to rescue a dog and a cat from the trailer,” police said. The house was otherwise unoccupied when the fire broke out, police said.
Police and firefighters from the Old Mystic, Mystic and Poquonnock Bridge Fire Departments responded and helped put out the blaze. Police said officials deemed the home uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage to the structure.
One person has been displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
