Summary
The Funky Cat is an all-electric sedan launched by Ora, a fledgling brand owned by Chinese auto giant Great Wall Motors.
Slightly smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3 but larger than the Mini electric hatchback, the Funky Cat is Ora’s first foray into the European market, which has received a rather mixed bag of reviews from the UK media since then. that it has become available to order in recent years. weeks of 2022.
Often described as “a great start,” some critics find it hard to look past its unusual name and dodgy infotainment, while others have singled out the Funky Cat as an interesting left-field pick that might tempt fans. buyers who generally opt for larger cars. brands.
parker‘s Alan Taylor-Jones concludes that the hatchback will appeal to those “more about style than sensibility”, pointing to the car’s smart styling which is hampered by its small trunk and the fact that it has less range than some smaller, cheaper electric city cars.
The car won’t initially come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, which disappointed some outlets, and several reviewers also commented that many of its similarly priced rivals are simply more entertaining on the road.
That said, Richard Ingram of Auto-Express adds that the Funky Cat “more than punches its weight on kit and cabin tech” – a conclusion reflected by the car’s impressive five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
“The Funky Cat is different,” says The sun‘s Ron Gill, “but that doesn’t advance the game.” While Ora’s first entrant to the UK market is a capable hatchback, it does little to stand out in an increasingly crowded pack of electric family cars.
As of December 2022, the Ora Funky Cat has held a Expert rating of 57%, based on 12 reviews published by UK motoring media. However, this is still a new model, so the rating might go up or down a few points as more local reviews come out.

“Although it punches above its weight on kit and cabin tech, you might expect the Funky Cat’s rivals to show it a clean pair of heels on the road. But that’s not the case. In most situations it works well; the ride is just on the right side of the farm, giving you a sense of attachment to the road without being uncomfortable.

“The Funky Cat is a good start, despite a couple of weak points and an unusual name that some can’t overlook. Those who can will find the Funky Cat an attractive alternative to rival sedans like the Volkswagen ID.3 at price points which could even tempt buyers of small electric city cars like the Fiat and the MINI.

“You might choose it purely for looks, quality and technology, but the Ora Funky Cat is also fun to drive. Rivals have longer ranges and can charge faster, but that might not worry drivers who rarely venture out of town.

“The ORA Funky Cat has characterful exterior styling, an interesting interior, the refinement you expect from an EV and decent driving dynamics. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the quality of the car, particularly the cabin.

“This is a solid if not exceptional initial bet from Ora that will certainly appeal to those who focus more on style than sensibility. It’s certainly a larger option with a longer range than the equally retro MINI Electric, although we’d prefer an MG4 or Renault Megane.

“Funky Cat is different, but it doesn’t advance the game. If you really want a smart, versatile electric car, try a Kia Niro. He’s the best cat.

“The Funky Cat has its issues, including the price and relatively small battery, but it’s a competitive product nonetheless. The driving experience and cabin quality are on par with the Funky Cat’s rivals, and the on-board technology is impressive.

“The turn signals are a nightmare: it’s a light touch for quick indication and a heavy touch when you’re sitting at a junction, but it’s too easy to press too hard.”

“The Funky Cat has an excellent safety rating and a decent warranty. The problem is, there are plenty of smaller electric car rivals that cost the same or less, and most of them are better. to drive and better inside. The mediocre infotainment system and small starting compound are important.
