BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FL – Crews from the Titusville Fire Department responded Friday to a structure fire at Emerald Place Apartments in Titusville that left a family of six homeless.

Jeff Howell and Santanna Cataldo and their four children lost everything they owned, including the family cat, in the fire.

The couple are longtime employees of Garage Experts of Brevard, and owner Ryan Burke has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help Jeff, Santanna and their children Zachary, 12, Chloe, 7, Dylan, 10 and Tyler, 16, in Rebuilding Their Lives.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Jeff and Santana and help more than you ever know,” Ryan said on the GoFundMe page.

According to authorities, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Friday, the Titusville Fire Department, with the assistance of Brevard County Fire Rescue, responded to Emerald Place Apartments located at 1005 Tree Lane for the report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire were seen from the roof. When doing a 360 of the building, it was also noted that the fire originated from a balcony on the second floor, in addition to thick smoke.

The Brevard County Fire Rescue District 20 assumed command. Rescue 13 arrived with District 20 and conducted a primary survey of the second floor apartments to ensure no one was inside as they faced heavy smoky conditions and a fire above. above the head.

Two hoses were laid for the fire attack, with the fire spilling over after several minutes.

Due to the location and extent of the fire, a major overhaul is required. Staff will be on site for a period of time to perform rescue and overhaul.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the state fire marshal is at the scene investigating. A dog was removed from the building and reunited with its owners.

No injuries were reported and no expansion to other buildings.
