Police report filed about boy allegedly throwing cat from 22nd floor of HDB block; incident captured on video

SINGAPORE – Police confirmed on Friday December 16 that a report had been filed of a filmed incident where a boy allegedly threw a cat from the 22nd floor of a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block in Boon Lay. The cat died of his injuries.

The first closed-circuit television (CCTV) video of the incident was posted online on Thursday. It is time stamped at 1:35 p.m. on December 14. The video has since been shared on multiple platforms.

An online petition in response to the video, calling for “justice for the cat” without further details, had already garnered more than 10,000 signatures by Friday afternoon.

The videos show a boy exiting an elevator with a cat walking in front of him.

The boy is then seen picking up the cat with both hands and throwing it over a ledge near the elevator landing.

A loud crash is then heard a few seconds later.

The online petition and video captions allege the incident happened at an HDB block in Boon Lay.

In a Facebook post Thursday, the Cat Welfare Society said it was extremely upset by the incident and had helped file reports with police and the Animal and Veterinary Service, part of the National Parks Board.
