‘Pop-Up Cat Cafe’ encourages cat adoption

PEORIA HEIGHTS (25 News Now) — Dozens of people have received an extra energy boost with their morning coffee, thanks to playing with animals looking for homes.

Bear’s Boutique in Peoria Heights brings a “Pop-Up Cat Cafe” to its store once a month. The goal is to help local shelters adopt cats.

On Sunday, a coffee was offered to people who came to cuddle and meet the cats of the TAPS No-Kill Animal Shelter.

Shelter workers say the cats still need adoption.

“There are no cat events in Peoria. So it was kind of like, well, cats have to be seen too, and there are so many cats. So we get them adopted, we attract attention to the kittens and you play with them,” said Samm Hutchison, owner of Bear’s Boutique.

Hutchison says she eventually wants to move to a bigger location and possibly host pop-up dog events.

Proceeds from the event were donated to the Bear’s Bites Foundation and TAPS.
