I love the new stores that open in the neighborhood, especially when they’re not chain stores or box stores. So if you have a cat or are looking for a gift for the cat lover in your life, there’s a perfect (had to use) place for you to shop!
Spicy Purrito specializes in homemade catnip toys and is located on Jay Street in Schenectady. Owner Tonya Hall started making homemade toys in 2017, making all the toys and choosing fabrics to match the colors and themes.
Tonya says she’s always been a feline person and has been receiving cat-themed birthday cards for over four decades. The Spicy Purrito isn’t Tonya’s only job. She works full time at the New York State Lottery while she operates her store. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends or by appointment. Spicy Purrito will also be open during select downtown Schenectady events.
So how did Tonya come up with the name Spicy Purrito? She says a purrito is a cat wrapped in a blanket, which looks like a burrito. A spicy purrito is an angry cat wrapped in a blanket.
There aren’t too many cat-specific stores in the area, so this would be a great place to shop, and I recommend you do it right meow! (I had to do it again)
