Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland didn’t exactly send 2022 off with a bang.
In the final UFC main event of the year, Cannonier narrowly won a split decision over Sean Strickland after five rounds of technical strikes – and at times without incident. The back-and-forth contest produced one of the weirdest sets of scorecards you’ll see, with two judges scoring the fight 49-46 for Cannonier and the other 49-46 for Strickland.
Although the middleweight bout was light on drama, that didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot for the fighters to talk about, especially when it came to the lack of meaningful exchanges and scoring. particular.
Ode ‘Osbourne offered Sean Strickland some tough love, writing, “I love Sean, but you can’t act like a lion and fight like a cat.”
Fellow middleweight Derek Brunson called the scorecards “crazy” and wondered if MMA needed a “real scoring system.”

Comedy to judge. 49-46 one person, 49-46 another person. Too subjective and opinionated. Can we have a real rating system… #UFCVegas66

Good fight from both, I had Cannonier but I could see the judges going both ways.

Strickland is pissed, but he should have shown more urgency. 49-46 going opposite directions, odd cards again. @VerdictMMA what you have?
